With my personal experience and the research I have completed, I came up with
Mission Sparx®. I named this company after something a teacher once told me- “The best part of being a teacher is seeing that little spark in my student’s eyes when they finally comprehend a topic.” I want this to be the end result of each textbook. Mission Sparx® is structured for grades 3-8, which are considered as important grades for standardized testing. It will be composed of five textbooks for each grade- Math, Science, History, Reading, and Art.
My senior project is a branding system for Mission Sparx®. Since I really enjoyed Becky Bride’s use of illustrations and Spectrum’s use of simple-straightforward text, I plan on using illustrations within the pages of each textbook to simplify all topics. Each chapter will feature an individual within our history. A chapter on Physics, for example, may feature someone like Einstein. The purpose of illustrating these characters is to 1) make the information memorable and 2) to keep the legacy of these special individuals alive. To help close the gap in remote learning, the students will have access to a digital textbook almost similar to Blackboard/Canvas. The students will have the ability to watch videos that relate to each topic and will be able to submit the assignments via the platform. The teachers, on the other hand, will have a physical book containing the answers to each question as well as other handy resources. The teacher will also have the ability to track their student’s progress in each unit via the website and will be able to go back with the student to improve the targeted section. The teacher will also have the ability to upload their own videos into their customizable classroom.
